Christian Sesma's 'Paydirt' plunges viewers into a sun-baked world of fractured loyalties and desperate pursuits. The film centers on a paroled criminal, portrayed with a weary intensity by Luke Goss, who reunites his former associates to unearth a fortune lost in a DEA operation gone awry. Their quest, however, is shadowed by a determined retired sheriff, adding a layer of moral complexity and escalating the tension. Val Kilmer and Mike Hatton round out a cast that navigates the arid landscapes and even drier moral compasses of their characters. While the narrative treads familiar crime thriller territory, Sesma's direction imbues the desert setting with a palpable sense of isolation and impending doom.
