Cinemavixion Review

The documentary 'Passing Through | Finding a New Community in Skid Row,' directed by Matt Lanter, offers a poignant look into the lives of individuals residing in Los Angeles' Skid Row. The film explores the systemic issues that lead to the concentration of poverty and dispossession in this area, while simultaneously highlighting the resilience and the unexpected formation of community among its inhabitants. Through the experiences of people like Darlene Altemeier, Rory White, and Manuel Compito, the documentary suggests that even in the most marginalized environments, a sense of belonging and mutual support can emerge. It prompts viewers to reconsider their perceptions of Skid Row, moving beyond stereotypes to recognize the humanity and the search for connection that defines its residents. This work serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of community, regardless of one's circumstances.
