Cinemavixion Review

David Howard's 1937 film, "Park Avenue Logger," offers a surprisingly robust blend of action and social commentary, disguised as a simple tale of a millionaire's son learning the ropes of the timber industry. George O'Brien stars as Grant Curran, a young man sent west by his father to gain practical experience in one of the family's logging camps. Unbeknownst to the elder Curran, his son is not merely intellectually inclined but also a skilled professional wrestler, a talent that proves invaluable when he encounters the rougher elements and corrupt practices at the camp. O'Brien convincingly portrays a protagonist who can handle himself in a physical confrontation while also possessing the sharp mind to uncover the local boss's fraudulent schemes against his father. Beatrice Roberts and Willard Robertson round out a capable cast in this engaging pre-Code drama. While perhaps not a landmark film, "Park Avenue Logger" delivers a satisfying narrative with enough grit and intrigue to entertain, showcasing a classic Hollywood formula executed with commendable efficiency.
