PARENTS

Cinemavixion Review

Bob Balaban's 'Parents' is a darkly comedic gem that masterfully blends suburban unease with a chilling undercurrent of the uncanny. Set against the seemingly idyllic backdrop of 1950s suburbia, the film centers on young Michael, whose growing suspicions about his parents' peculiar dietary habits escalate into genuine horror. Randy Quaid delivers a performance both unsettling and strangely tender as the father whose genial facade barely conceals a disturbing truth. The film's strength lies in its ability to evoke a palpable sense of childhood anxiety, transforming mundane domesticity into a source of dread. With its unique blend of psychological horror and black humor, 'Parents' offers a thought-provoking exploration of societal repression and the hidden monstrosities that can lurk beneath the surface of normalcy. It's a film that lingers, prompting reflection on the secrets we keep and the anxieties we project.
