PARABLE: THE VATICAN'S DARK SECRET | EDGARDO MORTARA'S STORY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the compelling and tragic true story of Edgardo Mortara, a Jewish boy controversially taken by the Inquisition in 1858 Bologna. The narrative powerfully contrasts the deep paternal love of a father fighting an entrenched religious and political power structure with the institutional might of the papacy, which saw the boy as a symbol of faith. The film highlights the historical context of the Inquisition's vast influence and the eventual opening of its archives, suggesting a complex interplay of myth, legend, and historical truth. It effectively frames Mortara's plight as a pivotal moment that contributed to the decline of the Inquisition, driven by the relentless struggle of a father and the shifting tides of imperial power. The presentation is rich with historical detail, inviting viewers to contemplate themes of faith, family, and the enduring quest for justice against formidable odds.
