PAINKILLER

Cinemavixion Review

Mark Savage's 2021 film "Painkiller" presents a raw and unflinching look at the devastating consequences of the opioid crisis, anchored by a compelling performance from Bill Oberst Jr. as a grieving father consumed by a quest for justice. The narrative follows Bill Johnson, who, after the tragic loss of his daughter to an opioid overdose, embarks on a relentless mission to expose the corrupt pharmaceutical industry. The film masterfully builds suspense as Johnson confronts corporate greed, embodying the desperation of those left shattered by addiction. While the film may not have garnered widespread critical acclaim or major awards, its thematic relevance is undeniable. The plot, echoed in details from external databases, centers on a father's crusade against white-collar criminals, a theme that resonates deeply in contemporary society. Michael Paré and Tom Parnell also contribute to the cast, adding depth to this intense portrayal of personal tragedy and societal reckoning. "Painkiller" serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of corporate malfeasance and the enduring power of a father's love in the face of unimaginable loss.
