Cinemavixion Review

"Own the Sky" is a compelling documentary that plunges viewers into the exhilarating, and often perilous, world of personal flight. Spanning a decade of dedication, the film meticulously chronicles David Mayman's audacious ambition to engineer and pilot the world's first functional jetpack, culminating in a breathtaking flight around the Statue of Liberty. The narrative skillfully weaves Mayman's personal journey, marked by childhood dreams, near-fatal accidents, and profound familial impact, with the technical marvel of his creation. Co-directed by Gregory Read, the documentary benefits from the insights of veteran engineer Nelson Tyler and pilot William Suitor, whose expertise is crucial to the project's realization. Beyond the spectacle, "Own the Sky" explores themes of perseverance, the pursuit of seemingly impossible goals, and the transformative power of redefined purpose, as Mayman pivots his invention towards life-saving applications. This is a testament to human ingenuity and the unwavering spirit to conquer the skies.
