ONE OF THE MISSING

Cinemavixion Review

J.D. Feigelson's "One of the Missing," an adaptation of Ambrose Bierce's poignant short story, plunges viewers into the brutal immediacy of the American Civil War. The narrative centers on Jerome Searing, a Union Army orderly whose routine scouting mission takes a devastating turn. As Searing observes a Confederate retreat from a precarious perch within a plantation house, a well-aimed cannon blast entombs him in rubble, rendering him immobile and helpless. The film masterfully captures the psychological toll of war, contrasting Searing's initial detached efficiency as a soldier with his desperate, visceral struggle for survival. Gordon Baxter delivers a compelling performance as Searing, anchoring the film with a portrayal that shifts from grim duty to profound vulnerability. While brief, "One of the Missing" is a stark and effective meditation on the capricious nature of fate and the grim realities faced by soldiers on the front lines. Its faithful adaptation of Bierce's work and its atmospheric tension make it a noteworthy, albeit somber, cinematic experience, earning a strong 8.3 rating on IMDb.
