ON THE FRINGE OF WILD

Cinemavixion Review

Emma Catalfamo's "On the Fringe of Wild" plunges into the harsh realities of adolescence in rural Ontario, offering a poignant exploration of burgeoning queer identity against a backdrop of familial expectation and societal prejudice. The film masterfully captures the tender, yet fraught, romance between Peter and Jack, two young men seeking solace and escape in each other's company amidst unforgiving circumstances. While the narrative navigates themes of desperation and the yearning for freedom, it does so with a delicate touch, highlighting the universal struggle for self-discovery. The stark, wintry setting serves as a potent metaphor for the emotional coldness the protagonists face, making their brief moments of connection all the more profound. "On the Fringe of Wild" is a compelling, if melancholic, coming-of-age story that resonates with its raw emotional honesty.
