OF DICE AND MEN

Cinemavixion Review

Kelley Slagle's "Of Dice and Men" offers a poignant and humorous exploration of friendship, burgeoning adulthood, and the escapism found in tabletop role-playing games. Set against a backdrop of suburban ennui, the film masterfully blends the fantastical elements of Dungeons & Dragons with the grounded realities of its characters' lives. Evan Casey delivers a nuanced performance as John Francis, capturing the internal conflict of a young man grappling with life choices and romantic uncertainty. The supporting cast, including Cameron McNary and Ricardo Frederick Evans, imbues their roles with authenticity, making the camaraderie and eventual tensions feel palpable. The narrative skillfully weaves John Francis's personal struggles with the imaginative world he creates, culminating in a deeply affecting look at what truly matters. With a runtime of 75 minutes and a commendable IMDb rating of 7.2, this independent gem is a thoughtful and entertaining watch that resonates long after the credits roll.
