NEW ZEALAND'S UNDERGROUND MAFIA BOSS | PRISON FAMILIES

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the complex lives of a family entangled with organized crime in New Zealand. At its heart is matriarch Joanne, who endeavors to maintain a semblance of normalcy by running her late husband's business and raising her four children, all while navigating the shadow cast by her notorious criminal brother. The narrative poses a poignant question: can Joanne steer her children away from a life of crime and incarceration, thereby breaking a cycle that has defined previous generations? The film, drawing parallels to 'The Sopranos,' offers a gritty and intimate look at the challenges of family, loyalty, and the persistent allure of the underworld, especially as the family anticipates a new arrival. It's a compelling exploration of resilience and the difficult choices faced by those living on the fringes of society.
