NEW FRONTIER

Cinemavixion Review

George Sherman's "New Frontier" from 1939 offers a compelling Western narrative, anchored by a strong performance from John Wayne as Stony Brooke. The film skillfully weaves a tale of ranchers fighting against both governmental land acquisition for a dam project and the machinations of a deceitful promoter. The plot, which involves the Three Mesquiteers striving to protect their land and expose corruption, provides ample opportunity for classic Western action and drama. Wayne, alongside Ray Corrigan and Raymond Hatton, delivers a performance that resonates with the rugged spirit of the West. While the film may not boast the grand scale of later epics, its tight storytelling and clear moral conflict make it a noteworthy entry in the genre, exploring themes of community, justice, and resilience against overwhelming odds.
