NATIVE HEARTS

Cinemavixion Review

Daniel Finley, the complex protagonist of Al Mertens' "Native Hearts," embodies a profound struggle between his dual heritage and internal demons. Finley, portrayed with raw vulnerability, navigates a world that offers little room for compromise, his journey marked by mental health challenges and a fierce independence. The narrative masterfully intertwines his path with that of Cheer, a woman whose past trauma manifests in vivid storytelling, and Warren, whose reluctant encounter with Jasmine, a young prostitute, adds a layer of poignant human connection. This film is a non-linear, darkly humorous exploration of familial bonds, the arduous path to forgiveness, and the ultimate possibility of redemption. "Native Hearts" offers a compelling, albeit challenging, look at the intricacies of the human spirit.
