MY FAVORITE BRUNETTE

Cinemavixion Review

Elliott Nugent's "My Favorite Brunette" is a delightful romp through noir parody, anchored by the inimitable Bob Hope. As Ronnie Jackson, a timid photographer thrust into the shadowy world of private investigation, Hope delivers his signature blend of wisecracking charm and physical comedy. The plot, a clever send-up of thriller clichés, sees Jackson entangled with the alluring Baroness Montay (Dorothy Lamour) and the menacing presence of Peter Lorre. The film masterfully balances suspense with laugh-out-loud moments, utilizing its San Quentin prison framing device to full effect. While not a critical darling in its time, its enduring appeal lies in its playful deconstruction of genre tropes and Hope's unparalleled ability to navigate comedic peril. A must-see for fans of classic Hollywood comedy and witty satire.
