Edward Dmytryk's "Mutiny" (1952) plunges viewers into the high-stakes world of the War of 1812, a period ripe for tales of espionage and avarice. The film charts Captain James Marshall's perilous mission to breach the British blockade and secure a vital French loan in gold. However, the true intrigue unfolds with the introduction of First Mate Ben Waldridge, a disgraced former British Navy Captain, and his crew, who quickly turn their attention from national duty to the glittering prize of gold. Adding a layer of romantic entanglement and moral ambiguity is Leslie, played with a compelling blend of charm and self-interest by the luminous Angela Lansbury, who also appeared in the film.
