Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "Murder in the Consulate: The Assassination of Jamal Khashoggi," plunges into the disturbing circumstances surrounding the death of the Saudi journalist. It meticulously reconstructs the events leading up to and following Khashoggi's assassination within the Saudi consulate, posing critical questions about the nature of the crime: was it a state-sanctioned international act or a rogue operation? The film's strength lies in its personal touch, featuring poignant testimonies from Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cenkiz, and his close circle, offering an intimate look at his final days and the emotional toll on those left behind. Through exclusive interviews, expert analysis, and compelling archival footage, the documentary scrutinizes the Saudi government's handling of the incident and its alleged attempts at a cover-up. It highlights the global implications and the ongoing calls for accountability, particularly referencing the UN Special Rapporteur's findings regarding the potential involvement of senior Saudi officials. This is a vital, albeit grim, exploration of a pivotal geopolitical event.
