MOUNT HIDEAWAY MYSTERIES - EXES AND OH NO'S

Cinemavixion Review

Brett Monk's "Mount Hideaway Mysteries - Exes and Oh No's" plunges viewers into the quiet unease of rural Virginia, where a former government operative, Bethany Shanholtz, seeks refuge from her clandestine past. The film, released in 2018, quickly deviates from a simple homecoming as a series of murders grips the seemingly tranquil town. Pulled back into the world of espionage, albeit unofficially and without agency resources, Bethany must rely on her unique upbringing and childhood connections to unravel a conspiracy. The investigation intricately weaves through the present-day killings and a long-buried mystery surrounding her ex-boyfriend Jamie's sister's death. As Bethany delves deeper, the narrative skillfully connects the unfolding events to her own history and the town's precarious future, offering a compelling blend of small-town drama and suspenseful intrigue. Starring Mikayla Leybovich, Stacey Bradshaw, and Trevor Stevie Ray Ontiveros, the film explores themes of identity, past trauma, and the inescapable nature of one's roots, even when trying to escape a life of secrets.
