MONOGAMY

Cinemavixion Review

Dana Adam Shapiro's 'Monogamy' delves into the complexities of modern relationships with a stark, unflinching gaze. Chris Messina delivers a compelling performance as Theo, a wedding photographer whose existential ennui drives him to a voyeuristic obsession, blurring the lines between his professional life and personal desires. Rashida Jones as his fiancée, Nat, grounds the narrative with a palpable sense of impending marital strain. The film masterfully explores themes of commitment, infidelity, and the search for authentic connection in an increasingly mediated world. While its critical reception was mixed, 'Monogamy' offers a thought-provoking, albeit uncomfortable, examination of the challenges inherent in sustaining intimate bonds. Its artistic merit lies in its raw portrayal of human vulnerability and the quiet desperation that can simmer beneath the surface of seemingly stable partnerships.
