MONDOCANE

Cinemavixion Review

Alessandro Celli's "Mondocane" plunges viewers into a near-future Taranto, a desolate city enclosed by barbed wire, where survival is a daily battle and gangs vie for dominance. The film centers on two thirteen-year-old orphans, shaped by this harsh environment, who harbor dreams of joining one of the territorial factions. With a narrative echoing themes of lost innocence and the struggle for belonging, "Mondocane" presents a gritty, dystopian vision. The film garnered attention, securing one win and seven nominations, and has been recognized with a Metascore of 45/100, an IMDb rating of 6.1/10, and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 63%. Despite its bleak setting, the compelling performances, particularly from lead actors Dennis Protopapa and Giuliano Soprano, anchor the story, offering a poignant exploration of youth in extremis.
