Independent America: Rising from Ruins is a poignant documentary that sheds light on the vital role of local businesses in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In an era where corporate entities often dominate the landscape, this film compellingly illustrates how small, independent "Mom and Pop" shops in New Orleans became the bedrock of community recovery. When larger businesses faltered in their response, these local entrepreneurs not only reopened their doors but actively provided crucial support and resources, embodying the spirit of resilience and hope.
