Lewis Seiler's "Molly and Me" offers a charming, if somewhat predictable, cinematic confection from 1945. The film hinges on the effervescent performance of Gracie Fields as Molly, a spirited actress whose quest for employment leads her to impersonate a housekeeper. Her arrival injects much-needed vitality into the staid existence of Mr. Graham, a retired politician portrayed with characteristic crustiness by Monty Woolley. Roddy McDowall also lends his youthful presence to the ensemble. The narrative playfully explores themes of reinvention and the unexpected connections that can blossom in the most unlikely of circumstances. While its plot may tread familiar ground, the genuine warmth and comedic timing, particularly from Fields and Woolley, make "Molly and Me" a delightful watch, proving that a little bit of acting and a lot of heart can indeed shake up a life.
