MICKEY SPILLANE: THE REIGN OF THE GENTLEMAN GANGSTER (THE IRISH MOB)

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the shadowy world of Mickey Spillane, a figure whose 1977 demise signaled the twilight of the "gentleman gangster" era. Rather than relying on overt brutality, Spillane navigated the criminal underworld with a unique brand of strategic cunning, notably orchestrating kidnappings of Mafia members to fund his ventures. The film sheds light on the Westies, a formidable Irish American crime syndicate rooted in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen. Operating in tandem with the Italian-American Mafia, this gang was deeply entrenched in racketeering, drug trafficking, and contract killings, painting a vivid portrait of organized crime's complex and often intertwined networks in mid-20th century New York.
