MESMERIZED

Cinemavixion Review

Michael Laughlin's "Mesmerized" offers a chilling dive into the dark undercurrents of a seemingly perfect union. Jodie Foster delivers a compelling performance as a young orphaned woman thrust into a world of wealth and unexpected control. Her marriage to a significantly older, affluent businessman, portrayed with unsettling nuance by John Lithgow, quickly devolves from a fairy tale into a psychological battleground. The film masterfully dissects themes of power dynamics, obsession, and the desperate fight for autonomy within restrictive societal and personal confines. Foster's portrayal of vulnerability gradually giving way to resilience is particularly captivating, making "Mesmerized" a thought-provoking drama that lingers long after the credits roll, exploring the often-unseen complexities of desire and survival.
