MERMAID DOWN

Cinemavixion Review

Jeffrey Grellman's "Mermaid Down" plunges viewers into a disquieting narrative that blurs the lines between reality and delusion. The film's premise, a mermaid stripped of her identity and confined to a psychiatric institution, is a potent metaphor for isolation and the struggle to be believed. Alexandra Bokova delivers a compelling performance as the titular character, conveying a profound sense of otherness and desperation. While the supporting cast, including Meggan Kaiser, effectively portrays the skepticism she faces, it is Bokova's portrayal that anchors the film's emotional core. The horror elements are more psychological than visceral, focusing on the protagonist's eroding sanity and the chilling atmosphere of her confinement. "Mermaid Down" is a thought-provoking exploration of myth and marginalization, offering a unique perspective on the mermaid legend.
