MERMAID DOWN

Cinemavixion Review

Jeffrey Grellman's "Mermaid Down" plunges into the unsettling depths of isolation and disbelief. The film masterfully crafts a narrative where a mythical creature, a mermaid, is unceremoniously stripped of her identity and confined to a psychiatric institution. Alexandra Bokova delivers a compelling performance, embodying the mermaid's struggle against a world that refuses to acknowledge her reality. The stark contrast between the fantastical premise and the grim, grounded setting creates a palpable tension, forcing viewers to question the nature of sanity and acceptance. While the premise leans into horror, the film's true strength lies in its exploration of otherness and the profound loneliness that accompanies being fundamentally misunderstood. "Mermaid Down" is a thought-provoking dive into a unique and chilling fable.
