MEGA PIRANHA

Cinemavixion Review

A creature feature that leans heavily into its B-movie roots, 'Mega Piranha' (2010) delivers exactly what its title promises: an absurdly large and genetically modified school of piranhas wreaking havoc. Directed by Eric Forsberg, this Asylum production is a mockbuster, cleverly capitalizing on the buzz around more high-profile shark and piranha films. The plot, while thin, serves its purpose: a South American research project goes awry, unleashing colossal, flesh-eating fish upon the unsuspecting populace. Starring the likes of Paul Logan and pop singer Tiffany, the film embraces its campy premise with a straight face, offering a spectacle of over-the-top action and questionable special effects. While critical reception, as evidenced by a low IMDb rating and Rotten Tomatoes score, suggests it's far from cinematic gold, 'Mega Piranha' finds its audience in those who appreciate unpretentious, schlocky monster mayhem. It's a film that doesn't take itself seriously, making it a potentially enjoyable watch for fans of the genre looking for a good, silly time.
