ME AND MARLBOROUGH

Cinemavixion Review

Victor Saville's "Me and Marlborough" offers a spirited and anachronistic romp, anchored by the irrepressible Cicely Courtneidge in a dual role that showcases her considerable comedic and physical talents. Set against the backdrop of the War of the Spanish Succession, the narrative follows Kit Ross as she donnes male attire to pursue her husband into the fray. Courtneidge fully embodies the anachronistic spirit of the piece, navigating the challenges of military life with gusto and a touch of theatrical flair. While the film leans heavily into its comedic premise, it also provides a surprisingly engaging adventure. The supporting cast, including Tom Walls and Barry MacKay, provide sturdy foils to Courtneidge's effervescence. Despite its age, the film remains a charming testament to Courtneidge's enduring appeal and a delightful, if unconventional, wartime comedy.
