MCLINTOCK

Cinemavixion Review

Andrew V. McLaglen's "McLintock!" stands as a towering testament to the Western comedy genre, a spirited affair that playfully riffs on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." John Wayne, in his element, embodies the larger-than-life cattle baron George Washington McLintock with characteristic charisma and gruff charm. His dynamic with Maureen O'Hara, as his estranged wife Katherine, crackles with witty banter and underlying affection, forming the film's comedic and dramatic core. The supporting cast, including Patrick Wayne and Yvonne De Carlo, adds depth to this sprawling tale of land disputes, family feuds, and the rugged spirit of the American West. While the film may not have garnered major awards, its enduring appeal lies in its grand scale, humorous set pieces, and the magnetic presence of its lead. It's a film that revels in its own boisterous energy, offering a delightful blend of action, romance, and laugh-out-loud moments that continue to entertain audiences decades later. A true classic for fans of Wayne and the genre.
