MAX RELOAD AND THE NETHER BLASTERS

Cinemavixion Review

Scott Conditt and Jeremy Tremp's "Max Reload and the Nether Blasters" (2020) is a delightful throwback to 80s B-movie charm, cleverly blending video game culture with supernatural horror. The film centers on Max Jenkins, a seemingly ordinary video game store clerk whose life takes a chaotic turn when a cursed Colecovision cartridge unleashes an ancient evil upon his small town. The narrative, which boasts a surprisingly coherent plot despite its over-the-top premise, follows Max as he transforms from a zero to a reluctant hero, tasked with defeating the Nether before it consumes humanity. Bolstered by a cast that includes Tom Plumley, Hassie Harrison, Greg Grunberg, and Kevin Smith, the film successfully captures the spirit of independent genre cinema. "Max Reload and the Nether Blasters" has garnered a positive reception, particularly noted for its inventive concept and execution, earning an impressive 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it a must-watch for fans of retro gaming and cult horror alike.
