MARCUS GARVEY: A GIANT OF BLACK POLITICS

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "Marcus Garvey: A Giant of Black Politics" (2008), offers a compelling look into the life and enduring legacy of Marcus Garvey, a pivotal figure in Black Nationalism and Jamaica's First Hero. Tracing his journey from labor organizer to the helm of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, the film vividly illustrates the profound impact Garvey had on Black consciousness and pride in the early 20th century, particularly in the United States. Despite facing significant opposition, including FBI surveillance and imprisonment, Garvey's vision for self-determination and empowerment resonated deeply and continues to inspire. Narrated by a diverse group of activists, UNIA members, and commentators, and enhanced by a special soundtrack from Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, this film serves as a vital exploration of a true giant in political and social history.
