MARATHON

Cinemavixion Review

"Marathon" offers a refreshingly raw and humorous look into the world of amateur athletics through the lens of an "unprofessional" documentary film crew. Directed by Anthony Guidubaldi and Keith Strausbaugh, the film chronicles the journey of five runners as they prepare for the unique Devil's Canyon Marathon. This desert race, now in its fifteenth year, is spearheaded by the earnest, albeit desperate, shoe store owner Ed Clap. The film's strength lies in its authentic portrayal of dedication, the quirky characters involved, and the sheer absurdity that can arise from such an endeavor. Despite its low-key production, "Marathon" has garnered surprising critical acclaim, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a perfect score, suggesting a hidden gem that resonates with its audience. While IMDb ratings place it at a modest 5.1, the film's charm and insightful, often comedic, observations on the human spirit make it a compelling watch for anyone who appreciates a good underdog story.
