MALIBU CRUSH

Cinemavixion Review

James Pratt's "Malibu Crush" presents a charmingly audacious premise: two Los Angeles best friends fabricating their film school credentials to woo an ex-girlfriend in Australia. While the external data suggests Sydney as the destination, the core narrative remains consistent with the local description pointing towards Bondi Beach. This independent comedy, released in 2022, stars Pratt himself alongside Billy White and Bella Valentini. The film has garnered significant recognition, with 25 wins and 16 nominations, and boasts an impressive IMDb rating of 8.0/10, underscoring its appeal to audiences who appreciate a lighthearted, albeit slightly improbable, romantic pursuit. "Malibu Crush" leans into its comedic potential, offering a narrative that is both relatable in its themes of love and ambition, and escapist in its execution. The performances from the lead trio are central to selling the outlandish plan, and the film's success in awards circles suggests a strong execution of its comedic and romantic elements. It's a film that invites viewers to suspend disbelief and enjoy the ride, celebrating the lengths one might go to for a chance at love, even if it involves a bit of a tall tale. For those seeking a feel-good comedy with a dose of quirky ambition, "Malibu Crush" offers an entertaining experience, supported by critical accolades and audience appreciation.
