Cinemavixion Review

Michael Lazar's 2007 crime thriller, "Machine," plunges viewers into a gritty underworld where loyalty is a luxury and survival is a commodity. The film centers on Vic, a former special forces operative turned hardened criminal, navigating a treacherous landscape of double-crosses, mob bosses, and corrupt law enforcement. Vic and his partner Frank operate in the morally gray areas, their primary motivation being financial gain. Their precarious existence is further complicated when they become entangled with the ruthless crime boss Paul Santo, who tasks them with eliminating witnesses to his impending indictment. Lazar, who also stars in the film, crafts a narrative dense with competing factions and personal agendas. Vic finds himself under the watchful eye of Ray, Santo's formidable enforcer, while simultaneously being pursued by the relentless vice cop Ford. The tangled web of deceit is further complicated by the presence of Thea, Vic's grifter girlfriend, and Layla, Frank's ex, both of whom have their own manipulative schemes. As Vic attempts to fulfill Santo's deadly request, outmaneuver Ray, and evade Ford, he also becomes a pawn in the violent power struggle between Santo and the Asian crime lord Cho. "Machine" delivers a brutal and action-packed climax where these disparate elements collide. While the film's critical reception and box office performance are not widely documented, its intricate plot and violent resolution offer a compelling, albeit dark, exploration of the criminal psyche. It is a film that dives headfirst into the consequences of a life lived on the edge.
