MACABRO

Cinemavixion Review

Lamberto Bava's 'Macabro' plunges into psychological horror with a tale of a middle-aged woman consumed by grief and delusion. Following the tragic death of her adulterous lover, she retreats to a New Orleans boarding house. There, the enigmatic blind landlord becomes increasingly suspicious as she engages in disturbing rituals, seemingly continuing her affair with the deceased. The film masterfully builds an atmosphere of dread and unease, exploring themes of obsession, guilt, and the fragile boundary between reality and hallucination. Bernice Stegers delivers a compelling performance as the tormented protagonist, anchoring the film's descent into madness. While perhaps not as widely known as some of Bava's other works, 'Macabro' offers a chilling and thought-provoking dive into the darkest corners of the human psyche, making it a must-watch for fans of atmospheric horror.
