LOVES ME, LOVES ME NOT

Cinemavixion Review

Wayne Powers' 2019 film, "Loves Me, Loves Me Not," offers a darkly comedic, albeit uneven, exploration of modern romance as seen through the eyes of its protagonist, Ali Silver. The narrative, penned by Lisa Anne Penny and Powers himself, attempts to blend the adventurous spirit of "Sex and the City" with the cautionary undertones of "Looking for Mr. Goodbar." While the premise promises a blend of outrageous misadventures and sexy encounters, the execution, as suggested by its modest critical reception and low IMDb rating, struggles to fully capitalize on its potential. The film features Isabelle Chester in the lead role, supported by David DeLuise and David Chokachi, who navigate a series of inappropriate, unobtainable, or unmanageable romantic interests. Despite its earnest attempt to capture the complexities of dating in the digital age, "Loves Me, Loves Me Not" ultimately delivers a viewing experience that is more niche than broadly appealing, making it a curious watch for those drawn to its specific blend of drama and romantic entanglement.
