LOVE'S BITTER MYSTERY

Cinemavixion Review

Carly Wilding's "Love's Bitter Mystery" offers a compelling cinematic dive into a pivotal year of James Joyce's life, cleverly framed through the lens of his seminal work, 'Ulysses.' Filmed at the evocative Villa Alba mansion in Kew, the movie captures the atmosphere of a post-gold-boom era with striking visual flair. The performances, particularly from Tobias Miller, Jacqueline Whiting, and Rebecca Morton, anchor the narrative, bringing depth to Joyce's formative experiences. While the film may not delve into the entirety of Joyce's complex literary output, it succeeds as an intimate character study, exploring the creative crucible that forged one of literature's most influential voices. A must-see for enthusiasts of literary biopics and Australian cinema.
