LA BALADA DE HORTENSIA

Cinemavixion Review

"La Balada de Hortensia" presents a fascinating premise: a self-absorbed comedian finds his world irrevocably altered after a car accident thrusts him into the body of the opposite sex. This narrative setup promises a potent blend of humor and introspection, as the protagonist is compelled to navigate life through an entirely unfamiliar lens. The film delves into themes of empathy, connection, and the very essence of identity, suggesting a journey that is as emotionally resonant as it is comedic. Director Arturo Menéndez helms this exploration, with performances from Julio Yúdice, Francisco Gattorno, and Helena Haro guiding the audience through this transformative experience. It’s a story poised to challenge perspectives and explore the complexities of human understanding through a unique, gender-bending conceit.
