Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the surprisingly deadly world of 18th-century pistol dueling, guided by the knowledgeable Mike Loades. The exploration moves beyond mere historical accounts to a hands-on examination of the weaponry itself, detailing the intricate craftsmanship of dueling pistols, including advanced features like hair triggers and rifled barrels. The narrative is enriched by compelling anecdotes, such as the infamous Hamilton-Burr encounter and a personal account of a duel involving the BBC Diplomatic Correspondent's ancestor. By restaging a duel, the film vividly illustrates the evolution of this practice from swords to firearms, offering a comprehensive and engaging look at a fascinating, albeit lethal, aspect of history.
