JULIUS CAESAR: THE LEGACY OF ANCIENT ROME'S GREATEST DICTATOR

Cinemavixion Review

Mary Beard embarks on a compelling exploration of Julius Caesar, seeking to peel back the layers of public perception to reveal the man behind the legend. This documentary delves into Caesar's ascent to absolute power, examining his masterful use of public relations and propaganda to achieve his political ambitions. Beard critically questions the circumstances of his assassination and ponders the enduring historical accuracy of Shakespeare's dramatic portrayal, particularly the famous last words. More significantly, the film investigates Caesar's profound and often unsettling legacy, demonstrating how his influence persists in contemporary language, politics, and leadership strategies, serving as a blueprint for both autocratic and more democratic rulers throughout history. It's a fascinating journey into the heart of ancient Rome and its reverberations through time.
