JERRY AND TOM

Cinemavixion Review

Saul Rubinek's 'Jerry and Tom' presents a darkly comedic and surprisingly poignant look at the existential ennui of contract killers. Set against the grimy backdrop of Chicago, the film masterfully blends stark realism with absurdist humor, exploring the diverging philosophies of its titular protagonists. Joe Mantegna as the veteran Tom and Sam Rockwell as the novice Jerry deliver performances that are both menacing and melancholic, navigating the moral ambiguities of their profession with compelling chemistry. While the plot ostensibly revolves around a hit, the film's true strength lies in its character studies and the unsettling questions it raises about loyalty, purpose, and the mundane nature of violence. The critical reception, with a notable 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, suggests a film that resonates with its thoughtful exploration of flawed characters in a bleak world, offering a unique and memorable cinematic experience.
