JANE

Cinemavixion Review

Sabrina Jaglom's 2022 thriller "Jane" plunges into the dark psyche of Olivia (Madelaine Petsch), a high school senior whose seemingly perfect facade crumbles under the weight of grief and academic pressure. When a dream college deferment triggers a series of debilitating panic attacks, Olivia embarks on a destructive social media-fueled campaign against anyone perceived as an obstacle to her success. The film, also written by Jaglom, adeptly navigates the anxieties of modern ambition and the corrosive nature of online validation. While the plot escalates into a confrontation with her "darkest impulses," the core of the narrative lies in Olivia's desperate attempt to regain control in a world that feels increasingly out of reach. Supported by a compelling performance from Melissa Leo, "Jane" offers a chilling, albeit sometimes unsettling, exploration of the pressures faced by today's youth, achieving a respectable 75% on Rotten Tomatoes despite a modest box office take of $13,141.
