JAMES DEAN: THE MOVIE

Cinemavixion Review

This 1976 television film offers a poignant glimpse into the formative years of a cultural icon, James Dean. Directed by Robert Butler, the narrative is shaped by the intimate perspective of William Bast, who shared a room with Dean during their aspiring actor days in the early 1950s. Michael Brandon portrays Dean with a compelling blend of vulnerability and burgeoning star power, capturing the raw intensity that would define his brief but incandescent career. The film delves into the struggles and aspirations of young artists navigating the competitive landscape of Hollywood, providing a humanizing counterpoint to Dean's legendary, almost mythical, status. It's a thoughtful exploration of friendship, ambition, and the making of a movie star, recommended for those interested in the personal history behind a cinematic legend.
