JACK THE GIANT KILLER

Cinemavixion Review

Nathan Juran's "Jack the Giant Killer" remains a charming relic of 1960s fantasy filmmaking, a testament to the enduring allure of classic fairy tales. Anchored by Kerwin Mathews' earnest portrayal of the titular farm boy, the film charts a perilous journey against the malevolent sorcerer Pendragon and his towering minions. While the stop-motion animation, a notable technical achievement for its era, may appear quaint by contemporary standards, it possesses a tangible, handcrafted quality that still captivates. The narrative, though straightforward, effectively captures the spirit of heroic adventure, complete with a damsel in distress and a clear demarcation between good and evil. The film's critical reception, underscored by a respectable 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, suggests its blend of fantasy and adventure resonated beyond its initial release, offering a delightful escape into a world of magic and monsters.
