ISLAND OF DESIRE

Cinemavixion Review

Stuart Heisler's "Island of Desire" plunges viewers into the stark beauty and potent isolation of a South Seas atoll, a setting that becomes as much a character as the shipwrecked souls it harbors. Initially, the dynamic between the pragmatic nurse, Linda Darnell, and the impetuous Marine, Tab Hunter, crackles with the friction of survival. Yet, as the months stretch into an eternity of solitude, their relationship evolves, exploring the primal instincts that surface when civilization's veneer is stripped away. The arrival of a third party, an RAF flyer, injects a classic romantic triangle into the narrative, complicating the burgeoning passion with familiar, yet compelling, dramatic tension. Filmed in 1952, this adventure romance offers a thoughtful examination of human connection under duress, bolstered by solid performances and Heisler's assured direction.
