IS THAT YOU?

Cinemavixion Review

Dani Menkin's "Is That You?" is a poignant exploration of enduring love and the roads not taken. The film follows Ronnie, a 60-year-old Israeli projectionist whose life takes an unexpected turn when he's fired from his job. This event propels him on a journey across the United States in search of Rachel, the elusive love of his youth. What unfolds is a deeply personal and romantic road trip, a contemplative look at life's choices and the lingering 'what ifs.' Boasting a cast led by Alon Aboutboul, Naruna Kaplan de Macedo, and Rani Blair, the film, released in 2014, has garnered a mixed but noteworthy reception. While critics have noted its heartfelt narrative, its critical scores, such as 38% on Rotten Tomatoes and 46/100 on Metacritic, suggest a film that resonates more with its earnest emotional core than with universal critical acclaim. Despite these figures, "Is That You?" offers a tender, introspective cinematic experience, inviting audiences to reflect on their own journeys and the enduring power of memory and hope.
