INVASION OF THE MERMAIDS | JIAOREN OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA

Cinemavixion Review

Wang Yanpeng's "Invasion of the Mermaids | Jiaoren of the South China Sea" plunges viewers into a compelling narrative rooted in Chinese mythology. Set against the backdrop of the South China Sea, the film follows Chen Shui on a desperate quest to rescue his bride from the clutches of the 'jiaoren' – mystical beings whose tears yield precious pearls. The initial abduction on his wedding night sets in motion a journey to a secluded island, where Chen Shui uncovers the profound and tragic reasons behind the jiaoren's animosity towards humanity. This exploration of myth and conflict, starring Yong Lu, Xiao Wan, and Jarvis Wu, promises a visually rich and emotionally resonant cinematic experience, delving into themes of loss, revenge, and the complex relationship between humans and mythical creatures.
