INSIDE THE MAFIA: THE SHOCKING TRUE STORY OF FRANK COSTELLO AND VITO GENOVESE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the intense power struggle between two titans of American organized crime: Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. It meticulously charts Costello's ascent as a "gentleman gangster," transforming the Luciano family into a vast enterprise, and the subsequent challenge posed by Genovese upon his return from exile. The narrative vividly portrays Genovese's ruthless ambition, tracing his journey from New York's streets to his alliance with Lucky Luciano, and his ultimate quest to dominate the mafia landscape. The film highlights the stark contrast between Costello's political maneuvering and Genovese's brutal tactics, illustrating the seismic shifts these rivalries caused within the mob. The escalating violence, betrayals, and assassination attempts lead to the pivotal Appalachian meeting, a stark revelation of organized crime's reach that compelled federal authorities to take unprecedented action. It's a compelling examination of how these larger-than-life figures shaped the trajectory of the American mafia, leaving an indelible mark on both criminal history and law enforcement efforts.
