IN THE NAME OF BEN HUR

Cinemavixion Review

Mark Atkins' "In the Name of Ben Hur" plunges viewers into a familiar yet compelling narrative of resistance against oppression. The film revisits the legendary figure of Juda Ben Hur, reimagining him not as a charioteer of high society, but as a retired gladiator lending his seasoned prowess to a new generation of vigilantes. This adaptation offers a gritty, grounded take on the epic tale, focusing on the visceral struggle for freedom against Roman occupation. Jonno Davies, Adrian Bouchet, and Peter Ormond anchor the film with performances that convey the weight of their characters' convictions. While the narrative treads a well-worn path, Atkins' direction imbues the action with a sense of urgency, making the quest for liberation a palpable and engaging cinematic experience. It's a serviceable entry into the action genre, offering a straightforward, no-frills confrontation between the oppressed and their oppressors.
