IN HIS STEPS

Cinemavixion Review

Zack Lawrence's 2013 drama, "In His Steps," offers a poignant exploration of faith and commitment within a complacent congregation. The film centers on the transformative encounter between a seemingly ordinary church community and a homeless stranger whose presence challenges their comfortable routines. As Pastor Henry Maxwell and several key members, including Rachel Winslow, Virginia Page, Alex Powers, and Jasper Chase, grapple with the spiritual implications of the encounter, they embark on a profound journey to understand a faith that extends beyond superficial rituals. The narrative skillfully weaves together themes of personal conviction against societal pressures, internal church politics, and the complexities of strained relationships. The core of the film lies in its examination of whether the characters can maintain their newfound spiritual resolve when faced with familial discord, ecclesiastical resistance, and the ghosts of past romantic entanglements. While the film's IMDb rating of 5.2 suggests a mixed reception, its earnest portrayal of spiritual awakening and the struggle for authentic discipleship makes it a compelling watch for those interested in faith-based cinema. The performances, particularly by Laura Lieben, Rebekah Cook, and Ken Lawrence, anchor the emotional weight of the story, inviting viewers to reflect on their own spiritual journeys and the true meaning of living by one's convictions.
