IN CUBA THEY'RE STILL DANCING

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a unique glimpse into Cuba during its challenging 'Special Period,' seen through the eyes of Agnes McLean, a woman passionate about both Latin American dance and socialism. The film thoughtfully traces her journey from a dance class in Glasgow to the vibrant Tropicana nightclub in Havana. As McLean seeks the roots of the Rumba, she encounters the resilience and spirit of the Cuban people, finding common ground in shared ideals. While the film delves into cultural exploration, it also serves as a poignant social commentary, capturing a specific moment in Cuban history. The intimate focus on McLean's quest makes for a personal and engaging exploration of cultural exchange and enduring beliefs.
